Nebraskans, like residents of many of the mid-west and mountain states we've visited, are also very patriotic, love their country, and appreciate what our servicemen and women do to protect us. Their love of America is inspiring. There are American flags waving at campgrounds, in front of houses - today we even saw one in the middle of a corn field.
When we left Grand Island two days ago, our oil light came on and, having already gone about 5,000 miles on this journey, Jeff thought it best to get an oil change. Getting an oil change isn an RV is not as easy as getting one in a car. Our RV can't fit into just any bay.
Our first stop was at a Petro truck stop/gas station. We figured they could handle an RV since they dealt with big rigs, but they could only do oil changes in diesel engines. They recommended we go to Walmart down the road. They couldn't do it either, but sent us to another place nearby. No luck there either. Jeff spotted a "Oil Changes in 10 Minutes" sign and pulled in. The guy said he would change the oil if we could fit the RV in there, and Jeff got it in there. $39.95 and 15 minutes later, we had an oil change and were on our way. Dustin, the attendant was a great guy and willing to help in any way he could.
Then I needed to run into Walmart, and as soon as I got out of the RV, an old man said to me: "That's a mighty fine camper you go there young lady." I said thanks, and as we passed the Walmart greeter, he said: "How the hell are you! Have a good day!" to her. Everyone in the store smiled and said hi.
And as we left town to get back on I-80, I noticed that the entire roadway was lined with American flags attached to the light poles. This is truly the HEARTland of America.
