Dinner and a Movie

I've been very fortunate to have had the opportunity to live in places like Washington, DC; Los Angeles, California; Alabama; Texas; and of course New Jersey, and also to have had a few jobs that had me travel around the country. I've made some good friends all over the place, and this road trip enabled me to visit with my friend and former colleague, Shannon and her family, whom I haven't seen in about 12 years.

I have to say, we've really enjoyed the cities in the Midwest in our travels, and Kansas City, Kansas is no exception. There are great malls, restaurants, and cute little neighborhoods in the suburbs. We haven't gotten to do much yet other than eat, but it's been great so far.

Tonight, we met Shannon and her family at the Old Chicago Restaurant, which specializes in Chicago-style pizza and calzones. It was great! Then we went to see G Force in 3D at the best movie theater in the country. Seriously! It had 30 screens in it, including an IMAX screen and a few screens in a bar/restaurant area where you can eat a meal and have beer or wine while you watch the movie. The bathrooms even have the new Dyson hand dryers - if you haven't seen them yet, you insert your wet hands and jets of air dry them in about 12 seconds. It's a huge improvement over the old hand dryers.

It was great to catch up with old friends, especially in such a great city. A very good day indeed.

Tomorrow, we're giving the RV a rest and spending the night at the Sheraton Sports Complex in Kansas City, Missouri. It's just on the other side of the interstate from the KC Royals baseball stadium, and has the biggest indoor water park in Missouri. The kids are beyond excited about it. We're also going to the 1:00 Royals game against the Texas Rangers, and may have to try one of KC's other BBQ places at some point. If we're lucky (and not exhausted) we might take in a museum as well. It's shaping up to be a great day ahead of us.
